Oxford shoes are characterised by their closed lacing and are regarded as the most formal of lace-up styles, sitting above the Derby in refinement. This construction has long made the Oxford the natural choice for cap-toe shoes, wingtip brogues, and wholecut designs. Owing to the neat, closed quarters, the Oxford may feel less accommodating for those with a higher instep; in such cases, the same design executed in a Derby offers a more generous and comfortable fit without compromising elegance.
